Shriners Hospital for Children no longer managing pediatric orthopedic satellite clinic — 4 insights

Orthopedic

Tampa, Fla.-based Shriners Hospital for Children will no longer manage a pediatric orthopedic clinic at the Johnson City (Tenn.) Medical Center, according to News Channel 11. The clinic will remain open under the management of Johnson City-based Niswonger Children's Hospital.

Here are four things to know:

1. A spokesperson for Niswonger Children's Hospital said that Shriners management determined that the Johnson City satellite clinic location in Greenville, S.C., was no longer financially viable. The decision was made as part of a strategy to focus on care closer to Greenville.

2. The clinic opened in October 2016, providing children with orthopedic care in Johnson City and the 29-county multi-state service area of Johnson City-based Mountain States Health Alliance. The clinic is 120 miles from the Greenville hospital.

3. The clinic will remain open. Orthopedic surgeon Brandon Green, DO, who led the clinic since its inception, will remain at Niswonger Children's Hospital, and patients won't experience disruption.

4. Only the management of the clinic has changed. MHSA spokesperson Teresa Hicks said that the clinic will continue to work with Shriners via telemedicine and other consultative services as before.
