Antonia Zaferiou, PhD, joined the Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush team as the director of motion analysis.

She will work for MOR's division of sports medicine. Here are five things to know about Dr. Zaferiou:


 
1. Dr. Zaferiou is charged with overseeing orthopedic and sports medicine research in the practice's Motion Analysis Lab.

 

2. She has researched the way people move during daily activities and athletic maneuvers.

 

3. MOR is optimistic that Dr. Zaferiou's background will help her develop technology and clinical interventions that will improve people's movement mechanics and reduce risks of injury.

 

4. Dr. Zaferiou has experience as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she created algorithms that automatically analyze authentic performance using wearable sensors.

 

5. Dr. Zaferiou earned her master's degree in biomedical engineering from The Cooper Union in New York City before completing her PhD in the same field at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
