James Andrews, MD (Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine , Gulf Breeze, Fla.). Dr. Andrews is an orthopedic surgeon who founded the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center in 1980 in Birmingham, Ala., and more recently founded Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze. His center has grown to expand practice services to recreational athletes as well as professional players. He's treated high-profile professional athletes, including Michael Jordan and Brett Favre. Dr. Andrews is known for his clinical research contributions in knee, shoulder and elbow injury prevention and treatment. He is a founder of the American Sports Medicine Institute and a past president of the American Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Society. Dr. Andrews received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at Tulane Medical School. He had surgical fellowships in sports medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and University of Lyon in France.

Geoffrey Conner, MD (D1 Sports Medicine, Birmingham, Ala.). Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Connor founded D1 Sports Medicine in August 2010 and serves as its medical director. Dr. Conner has done extensive research on double bundle ACL reconstruction and joint replacement. He holds membership to many organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Southern Orthopaedic Association and American Medical Association. Dr. Conner completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed a surgical internship at the University of Alabama Birmingham. He completed residencies in orthopedic surgery at the University of Alabama Birmingham and sports medicine at Atlanta Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Atlanta. During his fellowship, Dr. Connor worked with the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Thrashers.

Frank Jobe, MD (Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, Los Angeles). Dr. Jobe is co-founder of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic and is credited with developing the modern ulnar collateral ligament repair, or Tommy John Surgery, often performed on professional pitchers. He is a founding member and past president of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. During his career, Dr. Jobe has worked with several professional Los Angeles teams, including the Lakers, Dodgers, Angels and Kings professional hockey team. He earned his medical degree at Loma Linda (Calif.) University and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Los Angeles County Hospital. Dr. Jobe is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and previously chaired the organization's committee on the shoulder.

Lawrence Lemak, MD (Lemak Sports Medicine & Orthopedics, Birmingham, Ala.). Orthopedic and sports medicine surgeon Dr. Lemak founded Lemak Sports Medicine & Orthopedics to care for patients in all areas of orthopedic and primary care sports medicine. Dr. Lemak has an expertise in knee replacement. He also founded the National Center for Sports Safety, Alabama Sports Foundation and the American Sports Medicine Institute. Dr. Lemak worked to bring the 1996 Olympic Soccer Games to Birmingham and was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He graduated from the University of Alabama Medical School and completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Marc Pietropaoli, MD (Victory Sports Medicine & Orthopedics, Skaneateles, N.Y.). Dr. Pietropaoli established Victory Sports Medicine & Orthopedics, one of the area's first sports medicine facilities in 1999. He treats general orthopedics such as fracture care, total joint replacement and non-complicated hand and foot surgery. He also focuses on arthroscopic procedures. Dr. Pietropaoli received his medical degree at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse and also completed his orthopedic surgery residency. He then completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala. Dr. Pietropaoli is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Society, Medical Society of the State of New York and Cayuga County Medical Society. He is also the secretary of the American Sports Medicine Institute Fellowship Society.

J. Richard Steadman, MD (The Steadman Clinic, Vail, Colo.). Dr. Steadman is a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon and founder of The Steadman Clinic. He remains a managing partner. The Steadman Clinic has grown to include nine physicians and four locations. He also founded the Sports Medicine Research Institute in 1988, which is called the Steadman Philippon Research Institute today. He currently chairs the institute. Dr. Steadman specializes in knee injuries and disorders. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed an internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and an orthopedic residency. Dr. Steadman is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American College of Sports Medicine, The Institute for Preventive Sports Medicine and more.

John Uribe, MD (UHZ Sports Medicine Institute, Coral Gables, Fla.). Dr. Uribe is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a subspecialty board certification in sports medicine. He is a founding member of the UHZ Sports Medicine Institute. He specializes in arthroscopic surgery and minimally invasive surgical procedures for degenerative knee and shoulder conditions. He has research interests in rotator cuff repair and cartilage repair. Dr. Uribe has been a team physician for the Miami Dolphins and the Florida Marlins. He attended medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Miami School of Medicine Jackson Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in orthopedic surgery at Houghton Clinic.

George Wade, MD (Idaho Sports Medicine Institute, Boise). Dr. Wade founded the Idaho Sports Medicine Institute in 1978 and is one of its five practicing physicians. He attended medical school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He completed his internship and two residencies from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. One residency was in physical medicine and rehabilitation and the other was in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Wade also completed a fellowship in sports medicine from the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles. He has served as a team physician for high school and college athletic teams.

Franklin Wilson, MD (Sports Medicine Institute of Indiana, Indianapolis). Dr. Wilson has practiced orthopedic surgery for nearly 30 years. He founded the Sports Medicine Institute of Indiana in 1991, where he currently practices with three other physicians. He specializes in sports medicine with an expertise in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee. Dr. Wilson is a consultant to the United States Olympic Committee and is a neutral physician to the National Football League. He earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Bloomington, where he also completed an orthopedic surgery residency. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic in Columbus, Ga. He's affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Arthroscopy Association of North America, Indiana State Medical Association and more.

Raymond Tesner, DO (GRANT Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Associates, Columbus, Ohio). Dr. Tesner founded GRANT in 1985, and it was one of the first practices in Ohio to specialize in sports medicine and be devoted to prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries. He serves as the team physician for several high school and colleges and is a second opinion consultant to the National Football League. Dr. Tesner received his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Kirksville (Mo.) College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus and an internship at Warren General Hospital. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. He is a member of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Ohio Orthopaedic Institute and OhioHealth Sports Medicine Institute.
