2 more sites launch clinical trials for 3Spine alternative spinal fusion device

Spine

Advanced Surgery Center of Beverly Hills (Calif.) and Ortho San Antonio have completed the first clinical trials using 3Spine's new Motus device for lumbar total joint replacements.

The Motus device is an alternative to lumbar spinal fusion surgery, replacing the function of the disc and facet joints through a posterior approach. The procedure treats degenerative disc disease through reconstruction of the functional spinal unit.

It received breakthrough device designation from the FDA in 2020 and is approved at 20 centers under an investigational device exemption.

Ortho San Antonio orthopedic spine surgeon Anton Jorgensen, MD, is the first surgeon in Texas to participate in a clinical trial for 3Spine, according to a March 21 report from Culture Map San Antonio. He was trained by 3Spine co-founder and medical director Scott Hodges, DO.

Todd Lanman, MD, surgeon at Lanman Spinal Neurosurgery in Beverly Hills, Calif., completed the first procedure in California, according to a March 21 press release. The surgery was performed on an outpatient basis at Advanced Surgery Center.
