Stanford's Dr. Griffith Harsh IV becomes UC Davis Health neurosurgery chief: 6 highlights


Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health welcomed Griffith Harsh IV, MD, to its team as neurosurgery department chief, according to The Sacramento Bee.

Here are six highlights:

1. Dr. Harsh previously headed the Stanford (Calif.) Brain Tumor Center since 2010, and served as the vice chair of the neurosurgery department at Stanford. He will continue working at Stanford Medical Center as well as UC Davis until the transition is complete.

2. In his new role, Dr. Harsh will oversee 20 surgeons, scientists and residents serving adult and pediatric patients.

3. He takes over for James Boggan, MD, who served as UC Davis Health neurosurgical surgery chair for the past five years.

4. Dr. Harsh completed his neurosurgery training at University of California, San Francisco.

5. He has written 200-plus peer-reviewed papers.

6. Dr. Harsh is a past president of both the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and Neurosurgical Society of America, as well as previous vice chair of the residency review committee of neurological surgery and chair of the executive council of the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation.
