Former Louisiana State University Health Shreveport department of neurosurgery Chairman Anil Nanda, MD, is leaving the hospital to join Rutgers New Jersey School of Medicine in Newark, according to KTBS.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Dr. Nanda announced his departure in April. His staff have notified patients who are considering surgery about his departure.

2. As of June 5, LSU Health Shreveport has not received a resignation letter from Dr. Nanda, where he remains on faculty.

3. Dr. Nanda was replaced as chairman in October 2017. He is a tenured professor and retained his faculty position after the dismissal as chairman.

4. After he was removed as chairman, many LSU Health Shreveport physicians called on Chancellor G.E. Ghali, MD, to reinstate him. Brian Willis, MD, was later named interim chairman.

5. Dr. Nanda spent five years as chief of neurosurgery at LSU Health Shreveport. He first joined the hospital in 1995 when the neurosurgery department formed.
