Frank Cammisa Jr., MD, will perform cervical spine surgery on Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green April 5 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, ESPN reports.

Here are three things to know.

1. Mr. Green missed seven games between Feb. 17 and Feb. 28. He returned to the lineup March 2 and re-aggravated the injury during an optional practice March 21, according to the Detroit Free Press.

2. Mr. Green had eight goals and 25 assists in 65 games this season. He will miss the rest of the season.

3. Dr. Cammisa is the chief emeritus of the spine service at HSS. He specializes in minimally invasive spinal surgery, computer-assisted spinal surgery, microsurgery, athletic spinal injuries and motion-preserving procedures, including artificial disc replacement. He serves as the spine consultant for the NHL Players Association.
