Laser Spine Institute released findings on the economic value of its business for the Tampa Bay area.

The study was conducted through a partnership with the University of South Florida College of Business and showed that Laser Spine Institute had an impact of almost $140 million on the local economy last year. The amount includes operational expenditures, employee spending and spending by out-of-town patients.

"Healthcare has widely been recognized as one of the nation's fastest growing professional industries and one of the most sought after by job seekers. Establishing Tampa as a place that these job seekers want to be because we are known for being the best at helping people is the key to keeping our momentum going," said Dotty Bollinger, president and COO of Laser Spine Institute, in a news release. "Laser Spine Institute's vision for setting the standard of interactive, one-on-one patient care, along with collaboration with other Tampa business and healthcare leaders, can help shape Tampa as the nation's most respected region for patients to seek care and for well-trained healthcare professionals to seek employment."

More than 90 percent of Laser Spine Institute patients are non-local residents and drive nearly $14.5 million in medical tourism to the area. Laser Spine Institute employs more than 700 people, with 500 located in Tampa Bay.
