Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Todd Albert of the Hospital for Special Surgery

Todd Albert, MD, is the surgeon-in-chief, medical director and Korein-Wilson Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He is additionally the chairman and professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. 

Dr. Albert's specialty is in the field of orthopedic spine surgery. His focus is on disorders of the cervical spine and minimally invasive surgical techniques with image guided technologies.


Dr. Albert earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He had an internship at Pennsylvania Hospital, in Philadelphia, and a residency at Thomas Jefferson UniversityHospital, in Philadelphia. His fellowship was at the Minnesota Spine Center.


Dr. Albert serves on the board of several academic journals. He is a past president of the Cervical Spine Research Society and a past chairman of The International Meeting of Advanced Spinal Techniques.


Dr. Albert has authored seven books. He has published 300 peer-review and non-peer-reviewed article. He was awarded the 2008 Sir John Charnley Award of Excellence and the 2012 John Wanamaker Award from the YMCA of Philadelphia & Vicinity.
