Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Gregory Carlson of Orthopaedic Specialty Institute

Gregory Carlson, MD, is a general partner of the Orthopaedic Specialty Institute of Orange County, and he is also a clinical assistant professor of orthopedics at the University of California, Irvine (Calif.). He previously head up the spine surgery program at UC Irvine, before joining Orthopaedic Specialty Institute. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Cervical Spine Research Society, and American Spinal Injury Association.

Dr. Carlson has a professional interest in spinal fractures, spinal stenosis and minimally invasive spine surgery. He has published numerous scientific articles on both basic science and clinical topics, and has lectured on spinal reconstructive topics. He serves on Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board as well as on the board of the Western Orthopaedic Association.

 

Dr. Carlson served on the editorial advisory board for Spine. He is also a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals and grant agencies such as the Reeve-Irvine Spinal Cord Injury Center at UC Irvine.

 

Dr. Carlson earned his medical degree at Loma Linda (Calif.) University and completed his residency and spine fellowship at the University of California in San Diego. He has also completed a second spine fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
