Dr. Sebastian Koga debuts bone density-matched spine implant

Spinal Tech

Louisiana neurosurgeon Sebastian Koga, MD, has completed the world's first surgeries using Aurora Spine Corp.'s Dexa-C implant, the devicemaker said March 3.

Dexa-C implants are matched to a patient's bone density and are designed for anterior cervical discectomy with fusions. Dr. Koga's case was performed at Cypress Pointe Surgical Hospital in Hammond, La.

"The Dexa-C implant from Aurora Spine ushers in a new era of personalized spine surgery," Dr. Koga said in a news release from Aurora Spine. "This customization prevents implant subsidence and accelerates fusion even in healthy individuals. This will expand access to spine surgery for older patients who were previously excluded by poor bone quality."
