Arthrodesis, a company owned by Rama Chandran, MD, is suing Wright Medical for patent infringement.

Five details:

1. The complaint was filed on Jan. 5 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, alleging Wright Medical's Valor Hindfoot Fusion System infringes on a patent granted to Dr. Chandran in 2003 related to a surgical rod-and-screw kit for ankle arthrodesis.

2. The Valor hindfoot system features an oblique screw to promote fusion by compressing the tibia bone against the calcaneal bone, which the complaint alleges infringes on Dr. Chandran's patent.

3. Dr. Chandran notified Wright Medical of the patent infringement in January 2015, and filed a lawsuit against the company four months later. In July 2015, the lawsuit was dismissed without a settlement.

4. Wright Medical, which was acquired by Stryker in 2020, continues to make and sell the Valor hindfoot system.

5. The lawsuit, filed on Jan. 5, seeks a trial by jury and compensation for the patent infringement.
