Orthofix's PHOENIX MIS Fixation System receives regulatory clearance in Japan: 5 things to know

Orthofix received regulatory approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare for its the PHOENIX Minimally Invasive Spinal Fixation System.

Here are five things to know:


1. The PHOENIX MIS system is designed to enable the percutaneous placement of pedicle screws.


2. The system is intended to assist fusion in patients suffering from degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis and trauma conditions in the middle and lower back.


3. The system design supports both percutaneous and mini-open surgical approaches.


4. According to GlobalData, by 2020 the spinal fusion market will be valued at $684 million in Japan.
