Robot expands spine program at Arizona hospital

Spine surgeons at Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear, Ariz., are offering robotic surgery with Globus Medical's ExcelsiusGPS system, the Daily Independent reported March 3.

Kenneth Hood, DO, one of three surgeons at Goodyear-based Abrazo Spine Institute, is trained in the technology, which assists surgeons with the accurate implantation of pedicle screws in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.

ExcelsiusGPS enables surgeons to create 3D preoperative plans using the patient's anatomy and then guides them through that plan intraoperatively.

The robot's latest update helps surgeons navigate disc preparation, trialing and interbody insertion through a rigid arm-mounted retractor, according to Globus Medical.
