Orthopedic surgeons with one to seven years of experience are paid the most in Boston, according to Medscape's online salary comparison tool, the physician salary explorer.

The medical website surveyed more than 100,000 physicians to learn more about average annual salary, and its data includes information about employed surgeons and surgeons who own their practices.

Below are six cities with the highest average annual salary for orthopedic surgeons with one to seven years in practice.

1. Boston: $350,630
2. Houston: $339,455
3. Chicago: $316,593
4. Philadelphia: $312,314
5. New York City: $307,529
6. Los Angeles: $292,738
