Humana Military ends relationship with hospital specialists, including orthopedists

Orthopedic

Humana Military will no longer provide contracted coverage for specialty practices associated with Watertown, N.Y.-based Samaritan Medical Center, according to a WNY TV report, a local Fox News affiliate.

One of the specialty groups that will no longer receive coverage is orthopedic surgery; the insurer decided to end its relationship with the specialists after failing to reach an agreement on reimbursement rates. The payer plans to develop new relationships with other off-post providers to deliver specialty care.

Through a spokesperson, Samaritan said Humana Military required a discount from the rate established by Congress, and Samaritan Medical Practice said it couldn't accept a rate reduction.

The decision affected 10 of Samaritan Medical Practice's 45 specialists.
