The Joint Commission awarded Brockton, Mass.-based Good Samaritan Medical Center's orthopedic department with its Gold Seal of Approval for Disease Specific Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement, according to The Enterprise.
Here are four things to know:
1. The hospital underwent an onsite review in November 2017 to assess compliance with disease-specific care standards and The Joint Commission's total hip and total knee replacement requirements, which include orthopedic consultation, preoperative, intraoperative and postsurgical orthopedic care.
2. Good Samaritan's Center for Orthopedic Excellence has a staff of 10 surgeons who perform more than 3,000 orthopedic procedures annually at the hospital and its outpatient surgery center in North Easton, Mass.
3. The Center for Orthopedic Excellence holds a presurgical education class to prepare patients and their families for the operation.
4. The hospital also earned Blue Cross Blue Shield Association's Blue Distinction Center Plus for Knee and Hip Replacement distinction.
