Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Blue Hill Memorial Hospital partner to consolidate orthopedic services — 5 highlights

Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth and Blue Hill (Maine) Memorial Hospital consolidated to expand their orthopedic services, according to The Ellsworth American.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. Through the partnership, the hospital aims to develop a more coordinated orthopedic surgery program and offer patients a wider scope of services.

 

2. After several physicians left Maine Coast Memorial, the hospital hired several physicians last year including Bruce Hamilton-Dick, MD, Elaine Mau, MD, and Peter Copithrone, MD. Dr. Hamilton-Dick heads the hospital's orthopedic practice.

 

3. After Blue Hill's orthopedic surgeon, Jamie White, MD, retired, the two hospitals began speaking about working together on orthopedic services.

 

4. Blue Hill and Maine Coast Memorial are currently in the process of hiring a foot and ankle specialist.

 

5. Through the partnership, the hospitals are working to upgrade their total joint programs, working with patients well before surgery through post-surgery rehabilitation. Maine Coast is redoing rooms that will serve joint replacement patients.
