Dr. Cato Laurencin receives National Medal of Technology and Innovation: 5 notes

Cato T. Laurencin, MD, PhD, will receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from the president of the United States, according to a UConn Today report.

Here are five notes:

 

1. Dr. Laurencin will receive the medal at the White House next year.

 

2. He is the endowed chair professor in the department of orthopedic surgery at UConn Health in Farmington as well as CEO of Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science and director of the Institute for Regenerative Engineering.

 

3. He has previously received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Math, and Engineering Mentoring from President Barack Obama.

 

4. His clinical research centers on repair and regeneration of shoulder and knee tissue musculoskeletal regeneration.

 

5. He completed a sports medicine and shoulder surgery from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.

 

6. The award is the country's highest honor for technological achievement given to America's leading innovators.
