3 orthopedic surgeon arrests in 2020


Here are three orthopedic surgeons who have been arrested this year:

Nebraska surgeon Keith Hughes, MD, was arrested after prosecutors alleged that he wrote 63 prescriptions for 4,300 oxycodone pills to one patient over the past two years. Dr. Hughes was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to deliver and posted bail at $50,000 in July.

Farmington, Conn.-based UConn Health physician Cory Edgar, MD, PhD, was arrested after he intentionally coughed on other hospital employees in March. Witnesses and medical workers told police that he was intentionally disregarding COVID-19 social distancing and safety concerns.

Bloomington, Ill.-based Shaun Kink, MD, was arrested in January as part of a sexual assault and abuse investigation involving an adult victim. Dr. Kink faces charges that include two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault involving a person with a physical disability and two counts of sexual assault using force or the threat of force.
