Franciscan Health plans to build $130M Indiana-based orthopedic hospital: 5 details

Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Health submitted development plans for a $130M orthopedic hospital in Carmel, Ind., according to Indianapolis Business Journal.

Here are five things to know:

1. The hospital, which would be called the Franciscan Health Orthopedic Center of Excellence, would offer joint replacement surgeries, pain management, physical therapy, sports medicine and preventative therapies.

2. The center would cover 18 acres spanning 255,000 square feet, and it would employ 432 people.

3. Franciscan hopes to complete the project in two phases:

• Phase 1: 135,000-square-foot, four story orthopedic hospital
• Phase 2: 120,000-square-foot, two story medical office building

4. Franciscan said it has performed more than 2,500 joint replacements each year at its Mooresville and other Carmel hospital locations, both in Indiana.

5. The Carmel Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on Franciscan's proposal Sept. 18.
