Rush University Medical Center ranked No. 4 hospital for orthopedics by 'US News & World Report': 4 key insights


The department of orthopaedic surgery at Rush University Medical Center, including their Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush physicians, were ranked as No. 4 in the U.S. and No. 1 in Illinois on U.S. News and World Report's Best Hospitals 2018-19 list.

U.S. News and World Report reviewed 1,643 hospital programs nationwide to create the rankings, taking into consideration specialist reputation, patient safety, nurse staffing, survival and more.

Here are for things to know about Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush:

1. Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush physicians are team physicians for many organizations in Chicago, including the Chicago Bulls, White Sox, Fire and Joffrey Ballet.

"MOR physicians are recognized for their use of the most advanced orthopedic procedures and technology, their world-class leadership and their award-winning research which has resulted in globally significant orthopedic breakthroughs," said Brian Cole, MD, managing partner of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush.

2. Physicians at the practice focus on knee and hip replacements, sports medicine, spine surgery, interventional pain management as well as shoulder and elbow procedures. Among the physicians are former presidents of the Major League baseball Team Physician Association Charles Bush-Joseph, MD, and past president of the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Frank Phillips, MD.

3. In addition to providing patient care, the MOR physicians are focused on research and academic medicine. The practice produces The Rush Orthopedics Journal, edited by its physicians. The journal includes orthopedic research and highlights the faculty's humanitarian efforts.

4. MOR has offices in the Chicago area, as well as in Munster, Ind. In addition to their Illinois ranking, MOR was recognized as the number one program in Indiana by U.S. News and World Report.
