How reconnection can diminish physician burnout — 5 key thoughts

Practice Management

With physicians around the country plagued with burnout, Denah Joseph, MFT, from the University of California, San Francisco, detailed how reconnection can minimize burnout, according to Medscape.

Here are five key thoughts:

1. Ms. Joseph explained burnout is indicative of a physician's loss of connection to "a sense of engagement and meaning in your work."

2. Physicians who engage in reflective writing can better reconnect with their work. Meditation is also a useful tool to reconnect.

3. Physicians not need allot a significant amount of time to reflect, but can take time in between patients or while making dinner.

4. Ms. Joseph urged physicians to practice spirituality, which could entail anything from playing with kids to praying.

5.  Providers could benefit from discussing ideas about what they find meaningful in their work with colleagues.
