Allegheny Health Network outpatient clinic to compete with UPMC: 5 things to know

Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network opened a new clinic, putting it in competition with University of Pittsburgh St. Margaret less than a mile away, according to the Trib Live.

Here are five things to know:

1. Hospital executives believe the center will fill a primary care gap in the area. The outpatient clinic offers orthopedic, cardiology, advanced diagnostics and obstetrics and gynecology services.

2. Allegheny Health Network spent $8 million to develop the new outpatient center.

3. In total, the center comprises 21 exam rooms. All orthopedic rooms are together near the casting room and imaging suite to accommodate for CT scans.

4. Along with competing with UPMC, Allegheny Health Network's center will have to compete with the 25 orthopedic outpatient centers in western Pennsylvania.

5. Allegheny Health Network is currently developing five comprehensive community cancer centers and a new academic cancer center at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
