The first robotic neurosurgery visualization technology in Africa is now operational at Johannesburg, South Africa-based Netcare Garden City Hospital, BusinessLive reports.
Here are three things to know.
1. The Zeiss Kinevo 900 is designed to deliver more functionalities than any other surgical microscope.
2. The microscope system provides 3-D imaging of the brain and spine, allowing neurosurgeons to use a 3-D digital screen as well as the traditional microscope optic.
3. According to neurosurgeon Dr. Yusuf Osman, the new system allows for neurosurgical procedures to be performed through the smallest possible incisions.
