Robert Watkins, MD, examined MRI results of Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota's neck injury, ESPN reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. Watkins reviewed the 25-year-old quarterback's MRI exam as well as additional tests.

2. Mr. Mariota sustained a nerve injury in his neck during the Titans' Dec. 22, 2018 game.

3. Dr. Watkins advised time and rest, rather than surgery, for Mr. Mariota's recovery.

4. Dr. Watkins is a board-certified spine surgeon and co-director of the Marina Spine Clinic in Marina Del Rey, Calif.
