Drs. Margot Putukian, Bert Mandelbaum & more: Major League Soccer's new appointees

Major League Soccer appointed Margot Putukian, MD, as CMO, and Bert R. Mandelbaum, MD, as associate CMO.

Here are three things to know:

1. Dr. Putukian is a board-certified sports medicine physician serving as Princeton (N.J.) University's director of athletic medicine, head team physician and assistant director of medical services. She has served as a medical consultant for MLS since 2014, a team physician for U.S. Soccer and the U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team, and U.S. Lacrosse Sports Science and Safety Committee chair.

2. Dr. Mandelbaum is a board-certified orthopedic sports medicine surgeon and the co-chair of medical affairs at Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute. He also serves as the medical director for the Santa Monica, Calif.-based FIFA Medical Center of Excellence. Dr. Mandelbaum also served as CMO for the 2015 World Special Olympic Games in Los Angeles and CMO for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, among other tournaments.

3. John Gallucci was named assistant to the CMO. Lawrence Lemak, MD, who has served as MLS' CMO since 1996, will become CMO emeritus.
