Dr. James Andrews examines Orioles' outfielder knee injury: 5 details

James Andrews, MD, examined the right knee of Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo, who has been experiencing knee inflammation, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Trumbo was placed on the Orioles' disabled list Aug. 20.

2. Dr. Andrews examined an MRI of Mr. Trumbo's knee Aug. 29.

3. Orioles' management said Mr. Trumbo decided to have knee surgery, which will put an end to his season. The outfielder will decide in the coming days when and where to have the procedure done.

4. Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatments.

5. Dr. Andrews is the Tampa Bay Rays' orthopedic medical director.
