Dr. Robert Anderson diagnoses Mets' Yoenis Cespedes with season-ending injuries: 4 things to know

New York Mets left fielder Yoenis Cespedes is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgeries on both of his heels, according to MLB.com.

Here are four things to know:

1. Robert Anderson, MD, determined Mr. Cespedes needed to undergo various surgeries to remove calcification and bone spurs on both of the leftfielder's heels.

2. Combined, the surgeries carry a minimum of an eight- to 10-month recovery period. to recovery. Mr. Cespedes will remain on the disabled list for the rest of the 2018 season and some of 2019.

3. Dr. Anderson is expected to operate on Mr. Cespedes. He will perform surgery on the first heel and then wait two to three months before performing the other surgery.

4. Dr. Anderson is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Bellin Health Titletown Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Green Bay, Wis. He serves as a team physician for the Green Bay Packers.
