Keith Meister, MD, will repair the damaged ulnar collateral ligament of Oakland Athletics' pitcher Kendall Graveman after the ligament failed to improve through rehabilitation, SFGate reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Mr. Graveman spent most of the season on the Nashville Sound's disabled list after an MRI showed possible damage to his UCL.
2. The team took a cautious approach and Mr. Graveman spent six weeks rehabilitating his elbow. After his condition failed to improve, he elected to undergo Tommy John surgery.
3. Dr. Keith Meister will perform the procedure July 30. Mr. Graveman will be out for up to 14 months.
4. Dr. Meister is the Texas Rangers' head team physician and director of Arlington, Texas-based TMI Sports Medicine.
5. He previously served as the head team physician for the NHL's Dallas Stars, NBA G-League's Ft. Worth Flyers, Gainesville-based University of Florida Athletics and USA Hockey.
