Robert LaPrade, MD, of The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., showcased an anatomic ACL reconstruction surgery live on Facebook.

Here are five notes:

 

1. Dr. LaPrade is a pioneer in developments of anatomic ACL reconstruction techniques. He and his colleagues developed an ACL surgical technique that results in similar behaviors of the ACL reconstruction graft compared to the traditional ACL.

 

2. Dr. LaPrade's technique has been shown to improve patient reported outcomes and return athletes to levels of activity prior to suffering injuries.

 

3. Surgeons across the U.S. perform more than 350,000 ACL reconstructions annually, highlighting the need for continued advancement in the field.

 

4. Dr. LaPrade is the chief medical officer and co-director Vail, Colo.-based Steadman Philippon Research Institute's sports medicine fellowship program.

 

5. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. LaPrade is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Sports Medicine and Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy.
