Loyola University Medical Center developing program for concussed athletes: 3 takeaways

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Medical Center recently launched a new concussion program that brings together several specialists to examine concussed athletes, CBS Chicago reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. The program is modeled after that of the National Football League. Athletes that undergo a concussion are now seen by a team of seven to eight physicians as they look for possible concussion signs.

2. The physicians will create individualized treatment plans to help the concussed athlete.

3. Nathaniel Jones, MD, a Loyola Sports Medicine Specialist said the program was based on the idea of having multiple specialists treating their specific speciality instead of having one physician address every possible effect of a concussion.
