James Andrews, MD, founder of the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Ala., recently examined former NBA player Allen Iverson's right calf after an injury, according to an ESPN news report.
Mr. Iverson now plays for the Besiktas of the Turkish League. The right calf injury was a result of a calcium deposit with additional secondary bleeding. Mr. Iverson's calf can be healed with rehabilitation and an anti-inflammatory injection, Dr. Andrews said in the report.
Dr. Andrews also recommended Mr. Iverson stay off the court for four to six weeks to recover from the injury.
