Brian Kelly, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, recently performed hip surgery on Osi Umenyiora, a football player for the New York Giants, according to a report from The Star-Ledger.
The surgery repaired the side effects from a torn labrum Mr. Umenyiora suffered in 2006. He previously visited Marc Philippon, MD, a surgeon at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., who recommended Mr. Umenyiora have surgery immediately. However, he decided to wait until the end of the season.
Mr. Umenyiora's recovery time is expected to be three months, and he could be limited in offseason workouts and organized team activities.
