New York Giants' Osi Umeyiora to Undergo Hip Surgery at The Steadman Clinic

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Osi Umeyiora, defensive end for the New York Giants, will have hip surgery this week at The Steadman Clinic, according to a New York Daily News report.

Mr. Umeyiora began experiencing hip pain this past summer and had his hip examined by Marc Philippon, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at The Steadman Clinic. Dr. Philippon recommended Mr. Umeyiora undergo surgery on his hip flexor at that time, but he chose to play through the season first.

The injury initially occurred from a torn hip flexor Mr. Umenyiora suffered in 2006. He has also been experiencing knee pain from a torn meniscus that was repaired during 2008. After the hip surgery, Mr. Umeyiora is expected to fully recover within two to three months.

Dr. Philippon has operated on several professional athletes, including baseball's Alex Rodriguez, according to the report.
