Tennessee Vols safety Todd Kelly undergoes season ending surgery; to pursue MD

Knoxville-based University of Tennessee's safety Todd Kelly underwent season ending knee surgery at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Pensacola, Fla., the SEC County reports.

Here's what you need to know:

 

1. Mr. Kelly suffered a nagging knee injury in August 2016. It wasn’t until Sept. 14, 2017 that Mr. Kelly had an MRI test.

 

2. Surgeons at the Andrews Institute performed reconstructive knee surgery. Mr. Kelly is expected to return for the 2018 season.

 

3. Mr. Kelly now plans to continue his education pursuing a medical degree to become a surgeon.

 

4. James Andrews, MD, is a founder of the Andrews Institute which is comprised of neurosurgery, orthopedics, pain management, physiatry, sports medicine, radiology, total joints and vascular specialists.
