Orthopedic Sports Medicine

New York City-based Mount Sinai will serve as the official medical provider for the US Open Tennis Championships. This is the fifth consecutive year the health system has been named the official medical provider.

Here are five insights:

1. Alexis Chiang Colvin, MD, associate professor of sports medicine at Mount Sinai and team physician for the U.S. Fed Cup team, will lead care as chief medical officer of the United States Tennis Association.

2. For the third year, Mount Sinai's department of radiology will offer diagnostic ultrasound examinations to athletes to evaluate injuries. Carlos Benitez, MD, director of musculoskeletal imaging at Mount Sinai, will lead this effort.

3. Dr. Benitez and his team will be able to triage patients at the point of care with the ultrasound machine. His team can then perform ultrasound-guided joint treatments at the stadium.

4. Mount Sinai will have a Picture Archiving and Communication System workstation to monitor athletes' MRI scans in real time.

5. Since 2013, Mount Sinai has worked with the United States Tennis Association to develop programs in injury prevention, community tennis and diversity.
