The Osteoarthritis Summit was recently held in New York City and hosted by Hospital for Special Surgery to build a consensus about advancing treatments and preventative strategies for osteoarthritis, according to a Bradenton Herald news report.
The summit included 35 research scientists, clinicians, physical therapists, government officials and other industry members to discuss preventative treatment. The summit focused on classification, pathology, diagnosis, treatment and public health strategies for osteoarthritis.
The Journal of the Hospital for Special Surgery includes several studies and steps that could be taken toward more adequate classification, prevention and treatment of OA. The attendees hope that disseminating information about OA and promoting further research will break down some of the complexities of the disease and encourage pharmaceutical companies to further research and drug development despite current regulatory barriers.
