Dr. Kevin Stone Founds First Dedicated Meniscus Transplantation Center

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

The Stone Clinic in San Francisco, founded by Kevin R. Stone, MD, recently opened the first dedicated meniscus transplant center, according to a release from The Stone Clinic. Last year, The Stone Clinic Research Foundation reported a 79 percent success rate of meniscus transplantation in arthritic knees, based on improvement of pain and function. The study showed that meniscus transplant combined with an articular cartilage stem cell paste graft can delay knee replacement procedures for nearly 10 years, even if the patient has arthritis.

The new meniscus transplant center will include surgeons, nurses, rehabilitation specialists and researchers who will collaborate to optimize patient outcomes. More than 225 patients have already received meniscus transplant at The Stone Clinic prior to the new center's opening.
