Shekar Kurpad, MD, PhD, has been named the founding director of a newly created neuroscience institute in Milwaukee, the Medical College of Wisconsin said Jan. 11.

The Milwaukee-based institute was formed by the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Health, both based in Milwaukee, and Children's Wisconsin in Wauwatosa. Dr. Kurpad, a professor and chair of neurosurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, started his new role Jan. 7. He is charged with overseeing the center's strategy, growth and operations in collaboration with associated clinical departments and programs and the Medical College of Wisconsin's Neuroscience Research Center and research enterprises. He is also tasked with forming a team of hundreds of faculty and staff with expertise in neuroscience and spine.
