University Orthopedics renames 5K race in memory of spine surgeon who dedicated 25+ years to practice

Providence, R.I.-based University Orthopedics renamed its annual 5K race for pediatric cancer the Mark Palumbo Memorial University Orthopedics 5K in memory of the late spine surgeon, reports Patch.

Mark Palumbo, MD, died aged 57 in September. 

He practiced with the group for more than 25 years and served as chief of spine surgery for Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, according to the group's website.

Dr. Palumbo received several academic honors over the course of his career, including the Award for Excellence in Teaching-Brown University Orthopedic Residency Program.
