HealthPartners issued a positive coverage decision for minimally invasive sacroiliac joint fusions.
HealthPartners issued the decision, effective Nov. 1, that it would consider covering minimally invasive treatment for SI joint pain. RTI Surgical's SImmetry System will be among the devices covered by the new decision.
"RTI is encouraged by HealthPartners' decision, which expands access to the SImmetry System for patients with SI joint pain or dysfunction," said Camille Farhat, president and CEO of RTI Surgical. "The SImmetry System is supported by a growing body of evidence suggesting long-term pain relief for these patients. We are committed to advancing clinical data for the SImmetry System to aid in further payer decisions."
The company's EVoluSIon Clinical Study is ongoing, examining the impact of SImmetry on SI joint fusion and pain reduction. There are 250 patients across 23 sites participating in the trial. An early analysis published of the first 50 patients last year showed the system demonstrated a 55 percent reduction in opioid use and 73 percent reduction in overall pain in two years after surgery.
