Dr. Baron Lonner discusses scoliosis & treatment during Good Morning America airing: 5 highlights

Good Morning America and Inside Edition featured Baron Lonner, MD, of New York City-based Mount Sinai Hospital.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. GMA co-host George Stephanopoulos and his wife Ali Wentworth reported their 14-year-old daughter has scoliosis on social media in support of National Scoliosis Month.

 

2. Dr. Lonner appeared on GMA to provide information on scoliosis and the treatment Mr. Stephanopoulos' daughter is receiving.

 

3. Dr. Lonner specializes in minimally invasive thoracoscopic scoliosis surgery. He researches how to enhance the clinical process, outcomes and psychological impact of scoliosis and treatment.

 

4. During the airing, Dr. Lonner described how he treats young patient with scoliosis: "We apply a force and that corrects the curve. While they're in the brace the curve is straightened out. We do that for somewhere between 16 to 20 hours per day over the time of their growth, and once they've reached the end of growth we take them out of the brace."

 

5. Dr. Lonner completed his spinal surgery fellowship at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.
