Under a redrafted House bill, patients receiving opioids will only obtain a limited seven-day supply, according to Commonwealth Magazine.
Here are five points:
1. The bill also mandates any individual admitted to the emergency room with an apparent drug overdose to undergo substance abuse evaluation within 24 hours.
2. On Dec. 28, the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Committee released a redrafted version of Gov. Charlie Baker’s opioid abuse prevention bill
3. Gov. Baker’s bill proposed a 72-hour supply limit on first-time opioid prescriptions.
4. His bill also advises physicians to hold patients involuntarily for up to 72 hours if the patient is believed to be a threat to themselves due to substance abuse.
5. House members have until 4 p.m. on Wednesday to vote on the proposed bill.
