Orthopedic spine surgeon Mary Neal, MD, recently authored a book describing her experience suffering a kayak incident that trapped her underwater for 12 minutes, according to a Huffington Post article.
Dr. Neal survived after being without oxygen for 24 minutes and suffered no brain damage. During that time, she claims to have been to Heaven and was forewarned about a tragic event in the future — the death of her oldest son.
When writing her memoir of the event, she kept this information a secret. But the day she finished her manuscript, her son died in a car accident.
Dr. Neal recently appeared on the series "In Deep Shift with Jonas Elrod" on OWN discussing her story.
