University of Colorado Hospital's Dr. Peter Witt Helping Pioneer PELD Technique in the US

Spine

J. Peter Witt, MD, a spine surgeon at the University of Colorado Hospital Spine Center in Aurora, is helping pioneer a new technique for treating herniated discs called percutaneous lumbar endoscopic discectomies or PELDs.

The technique uses endoscopic instruments created by Karl Storz GmbH, a German medical device company. Thomas Lübbers, MD, a surgeon from Germany, worked with Karl Storz to develop the technique. Dr. Witt is one of the few surgeons in the United States performing this minimally invasive outpatient technique.

There are plans for Dr. Witt to offer the procedure at the Lone Tree (Colo.) Ambulatory Surgery Center.
