Duke neurosurgeon writes episode of medical drama

Spinal neurosurgeon Oren Gottfried, MD, has used his medical expertise to pitch and write an upcoming episode of The Good Doctor, ABC11 reports.

The episode, which airs April 26 on ABC11, focuses on two patients who are rushed to the hospital after being shot at a political protest.

"It was a hobby at first, but now that I've done it long enough, it actually is a hire position," Dr. Gottfried told the news outlet.

Dr. Gottfried is a professor and neurosurgeon at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C. He has served as a medical consultant for several TV medical dramas, including Chicago Med, Royal Pains and Elementary.

In 2019, he made his first cameo on Chicago Med, where he played an assistant neurosurgeon.
