Drs. John Rhee, Kris Radcliff & more: 10 spine, neurosurgeons making headlines


Here are nine spine and neurosurgeons in the news this week.

Myron Rolle, MD, a neurosurgery resident at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and former NFL player, flew to the Bahamas to aid locals in the wake of Hurricane Dorian. Bahamian American Dr. Rolle is a third-year resident and part of a 10-person team from Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Global Health Office of Global Disaster Response.

Kris Radcliff, MD, of Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute spoke to Becker's about how emerging spine surgeons are viewing private practice versus employment opportunities and changing attitudes toward opioids in his evolving patient population.

Scarborough-based Maine Medical Partners — Neurosurgery & Spine added Swedish spine surgeon Mats Agren, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Agren specializes in treating complex spine disorders using minimally invasive techniques for fusion and kyphoplasty.

McBride Orthopedic Hospital in Oklahoma City added Kevin Wiley, MD, to its spine department. Dr. Wiley graduated from University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City and specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery.

John Rhee, MD, professor of orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, spoke to Becker's about the university's new spine publication and emerging trends in the field.

Pasadena Magazine recognized Robert Cho, MD, chief of staff and pediatric orthopedic spine surgeon at Shriners for Children Medical Center — Pasadena, Calif., as a Top Doctor. Dr. Cho focuses on scoliosis, spinal deformity surgery, limb deformity and pediatric orthopedic trauma. 

Spine surgeon Anuj Patel, MD, joined OrthoAtlanta, which has 39 physicians providing musculoskeletal care across 14 offices. Dr. Patel treats all spinal conditions of the neck and back, including degenerative, traumatic, oncologic and deformity conditions. He also treats pediatric orthopedic spine conditions, including scoliosis.

Paducah, Ky.-based Thomas Gruber, MD, a board-certified neurosurgeon affiliated with Baptist Health Medical Group in Jacksonville, Fla., shares his insight on cost-effectiveness in spinal fusion as well as the future of robotics and navigation in spine.

Greenbelt, Md.-based Advanced Pain Medicine Institute Orthopaedic, Sports Health & Regenerative Medicine recently added Said Oman, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Osman won the Kambin Foundation Annual Award for endoscopic spine surgery research and received the Lifetime-Time Achievement Award by the World Congress of Spine Endoscopy in July.
