Nebraska hospital files complaint against neurosurgeon, plastic surgeon who allege wrongful suspension — 4 key notes

Spine

Weeks after a pediatric neurosurgeon and plastic surgeon filed a lawsuit against a Nebraska-based hospital alleging wrongful suspension, the hospital has filed a 16-page complaint disputing the accusations, according to a WOWT report.

Four things to know:

1. Pediatric neurosurgeon Mark Puccioni, MD, and plastic surgeon Jason Miller, MD, sued Omaha, Neb.-based Children's Hospital & Medical Center, alleging they were wrongfully suspended after expressing concerns about a colleague whose patient died during surgery.

2. When the lawsuit was filed, Children's Hospital released a statement strongly disagreeing with the allegations, and now it has filed a response that claims the allegations are baseless.

3. In the response, the hospital showed support for its CEO Richard Azizkhan, MD, who is linked to 528 lawsuits related to the time he spent as surgeon-in-chief of Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and Adam Conley, MD, the surgeon that Drs. Puccioni and Miller expressed concerns about.

4. The response states allegations against the hospital are unfounded, although patient confidentiality prevented the hospital from making more information about the patient's death available.
