Kaweah Delta Medical Center now offering 24 hour neurosurgery program — 4 things to know

Spine

Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, Calif., is now offering an around-the-clock neurosurgery program, The Foothills Sun-Gazette reports.

Here are four things to know.

1. The program provides comprehensive neurosurgery care and allows for patients to be treated at Kaweah Delta rather than being transported an hour or more away to another neurosurgery facility.

"When someone has a subdural hematoma or an epidural hematoma, they can die quickly or be left with devastating consequences. Being able to be seen here will cut down dramatically on the time it takes for these patients to receive care," the program's medical director Joseph Chen, MD, told The Foothills Sun-Gazette.

2. Kaweah Delta opened its Neurosciences Center March 5 to support patients pre- and postoperatively.

3. The 24-hour neurosurgery program will treat a variety of neurosurgical conditions including traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, brain hemorrhages and spinal abnormalities such as degenerative disc disease, spinal tumors and spine trauma. Patients can also undergo planned surgeries at the center.

4. Kaweah Delta partnered with the Center Neurorestoration Associates neurosurgeons Dr. Chen, Charles Liu, MD, Jonathan Russin, MD, Bryan Oh, MD, and Brian Lee, MD, to provide these services to its patients.
